Bard Fisher Center Receives an NYSCA Regional Economic Development Award
 

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Bard College has won a Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council Award. The award was granted through the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Workforce Investment Program and supports NYSCA’s Arts Career Development Fellowships for Underrepresented Communities initiative. Bard has received $49,500; with the funding, The Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College will expand opportunities available for individuals from communities underrepresented in arts curation and administration. The Fisher Center will appoint an individual from an underrepresented community as a guest curator, creating an opportunity for career advancement while addressing diversity and inclusivity in Fisher Center programs. In collaboration with the Fisher Center’s artistic and producing staff, the appointee will develop programs in cabaret, live music, spoken word, and interdisciplinary forms to be presented throughout the 2017 performance season. This appointment is undertaken as part of a broader initiative to attain the highest levels of inclusivity, equity, and diversity throughout the Fisher Center’s commissioning, residency, performance, and outreach programs.
 
The Regional Economic Development Council initiative, started in 2011, is a key component of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s transformative approach to state investment and economic development. Cuomo established 10 regional councils to develop long-term strategic plans for economic growth for their regions. The councils are public-private partnerships made up of local experts and stakeholders from business, academia, local government, and nongovernmental organizations. The councils have redefined the way New York invests in jobs and economic growth by putting in place a community-based, bottom up approach and establishing a competitive process for state resources. The Consolidated Funding Application is the single annual online process used by entities seeking funding from a variety of government agencies to compete for New York State grants.
