BARD STUDENTS ORGANIZE FUND-RAISER FOR KOSOVAR REFUGEES ON MAY 2.
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-A group of Bard College students has organized a fund-raiser scheduled for Sunday, May 2, to raise money for Kosovar refugees who have been displaced due to the war in Yugoslavia. The fund-raiser will be round robin games of softball, soccer, and basketball held outside the Stevenson Gymnasium on the campus. The games will be held from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. and followed by a potluck dinner for participants. The games are open to the community with pledges of $15.00 per participant requested. The fund-raiser has been organized by Rachel Mahoney, a first-year student at Bard College. Mahoney had organized twenty-four hour soccer marathons at her high school for the benefit of the fight against muscular dystrophy. With the news of the refugee crisis she decided to try the idea at Bard. In addition to the Bard students and community who are participating, Red Hook High School students will be playing, and all area residents are invited to attend and participate.
The money raised will go to three relief agencies active with the Kosovar refugees: the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, and UNICEF.
