THE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES AT BARD COLLEGE ANNOUNCES AN OPEN HOUSE FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 20
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-The Graduate Center for Environmental Studies (GSES) at Bard College, which awards a master of science in environmental studies degree after completion of an intensive program of two summers of class work and one summer of research, will hold an open house for prospective students on Saturday, November 20. The open house will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the Bertelsmann Campus Center.The open house offers a chance for prospective students to from hear current GSES students and faculty, to meet individually with faculty members, to have an early admission interview, and to tour the Bard College and visit the college's Field Station, which adjoins the Tivoli Bays Wildlife Management Area, a part of the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve.
The GSES curriculum aims to impart an understanding of current environmental problems and the ability to put that understanding to practical use. The program offers students a chance to undertake a graduate program at different times in their lives; many have worked for several years in environmental fields before enrolling in the GSES or are have decided to change their career. Other students enter the program soon after receiving their undergraduate degrees.
The program is truly interdisciplinary. Its diverse faculty includes ecologists, lawyers, anthropologists, geographers, economists, and scholars from other fields. Students take courses in the ecological and social sciences. Recently offered courses include estuarine ecology, the ecology of the Adirondacks, environmental economics, environmental law, and environmental impact assessment.
