INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED THEOLOGY AT BARD COLLEGE HOLDS WEEKLY LENTEN LECTURES FROM THURSDAY, MARCH 16, THROUGH APRIL 13 Rev. Dr. Bruce Chilton will lead discussions about "Rabbi Jesus: Career and Death"

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Institute for Advanced Theology at Bard College will hold weekly Lenten lectures on the topic of "Rabbi Jesus: Career and Death," from Thursday, March 16, to April 13. The lectures, free and open to the public, will begin at 12:00 noon in Bard Hall. Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling the Institute at 914-758-7279.

In the series of five lectures the Reverend Dr. Bruce Chilton will examine new information that has come to light through research into the historical and archaeological records of the time of Jesus. The essence of the personal Jesus—the forces that shaped him as a child and a man—still have not been completely elucidated. Chilton will place Jesus into the context of first-century Judaism.

The lecture topics are: Jesus in Nazareth, Thursday, March 16; Jesus in Capernaum, Thursday, March 23; Jesus in the Wilderness, Thursday, March 30; Jesus in Jerusalem, Thursday, April 6; and Jesus and Pilate, Thursday, April 13.

Lunch will begin at 12:00 noon, followed by the lecture and discussion with the Red Hook Ministerium. A $5.00 donation for lunch is requested, but the lecture and discussion are free and open to the public. Reservations are necessary call 914-758-7279 for information.

The Reverend Dr. Bruce Chilton is the Bernard Iddings Bell professor of religion and director of the Institute of Advanced Theology at Bard College. He is a scholar of early Christianity and Judaism, whose principal focus is in understanding Jesus within his Jewish context. Chilton is the author of fifty books including The Temple of Jesus, Pure Kingdom: Jesus' Vision of God, and the recent James the Just and Christian Origins. In addition to Bard, he has taught at Yale University, the Universities of Cambridge and Sheffield in the United Kingdom, and the University of Münster in Germany.
