THE BARD CENTER PRESENTS CELLIST DAVID CALHOUN AND PIANIST SUSAN WALTERS PERFORMING WORKS BY BACH, BEETHOVEN, AND CHOPIN

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—On Monday, April 17, The Bard Center presents cellist David Calhoun and pianist Susan Walters performing works by Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin. The concert, which is free and open to the public, begins at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall, Bard College.

Calhoun and Walters will be performing Bach's Suite no. 4 in E-flat Major; Beethoven's Sonata for Piano and Cello, op. 102, no. 2; and Chopin's Sonata for Piano and Cello, op. 65.

The concert is made possible, in part, through the generosity of the Homeland Foundation and the Leon Levy Foundation at Bard College. For further information, call The Bard Center at 914-758-7425.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

David Calhoun, cellist, has given many recitals and has been a soloist with the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and the New York University Orchestra. Calhoun has performed as principal cellist with the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the American Ballet Theater Orchestra, American Symphony Chamber Orchestra, and on tour with the New York City Opera Orchestra. He has also performed with the Seacliff Chamber Players, Orpheus, Mostly Mozart, and the Omni Ensemble. Calhoun has held teaching positions at the State University of New York, Ouachita Baptist University, and the Waterloo Music Festival. He has a wide range of interests as a performer and chamber musician; he has collaborated with the great virtuoso violinist Eric Friedman and has performed in scenes with the Martha Clarke Dance Company as both dancer and cellist. He also has performed in concert with Liza Minnelli at Carnegie Hall; appeared with Charles Aznavour, Rod Stewart, and Johnny Mathis; and has played on Broadway in Showboat and Kiss of the Spider Woman. He can be heard as solo cellist on Joseph Campbell's PBS series The Power of Myth, narrated by Bill Moyers, and frequently performs live on WQXR and WNYC. He has also recorded for RCA.

Susan Walters, pianist, is a founding member of the Dakota Piano Trio and has appeared with orchestras throughout the United States. She has collaborated with such renowned artists as violinist Midori, cellists Peter Wiley and Sharon Robinson, and the Mendelssohn String Quartet. She cofounded the Golden Isles Chamber Music Festival on the Sea Islands of Georgia and has been a featured performer at the Chautauqua, Caramoor, and Mostly Mozart Music festivals. She is a solo pianist with the New York City Ballet. Walters studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Mannes College of Music, where she won the Performance Award and a scholarship to study at L'Ecole d'Arts Américaines in Fontainbleau, France.
