BARD COLLEGE TO HOST OCTOBER 30 TALK EXPLORING ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION IN CHINA Chris Coggins, a Geographer Based at Simon’s Rock College of Bard, will present "The Tiger and the Pangolin," a Discussion and slide Show of Environmental Conservation Effo

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—On Monday, October 30, geographer Chris Coggins will present \"The Tiger and the Pangolin,\" an illustrated lecture on environmental conservation in China. The discussion will take place from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Room 115 of the F.W. Olin Language Center at Bard College. The event is free and open to the public. Chinese refreshments will be served.

Dr. Coggins will show slides and discuss his research on nature conservation, environmental history, and village-based natural resource management in three nature reserves in southeastern China. He will also show slides of a 1999 field trip for a Simon’s Rock of Bard course called \"Sacred Forests and Sacred Mountains of Eastern China.\" Coggins’s research, which has included extensive fieldwork in China and Taiwan, focuses on cultural landscapes, biodiversity, and protected area management in the Southeast China Uplands. He teaches geography at Simon’s Rock, the nation\'s only college of the liberal arts and sciences designed expressly for students of high school age.
