THE MUSIC OF KYLE GANN WILL BE PERFORMED ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, AT BARD COLLEGE Concert will feature four world premieres of Gann's work

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY—The Bard Center presents a free concert featuring the music of Kyle Gann, assistant professor of music at Bard College, on Thursday, November 16, at 8:00 p.m., in Olin Hall on the Bard College campus. Nine works will be performed, including four world premieres, \"Texarkana,\" \"Time Does Not Exist,\" \"Private Dances,\" and \"Nude Rolling Down An Escalator.\" Sarah Cahill, a pianist who specializes in new music, will perform \"Time Does Not Exist,\" and clarinetist Sara Phillips and pianist Maria Rivera will perform Gann\'s \"Last Chance\" sonata. Other works to be presented include \"Fractured Paradise,\" \"Windows to Infinity,\"\" Despotic Waltz,\" and \"Sitting Bull: Do You Know Who I Am\" from Gann\'s \" Custer and Sitting Bull,\" dramatic piece for voice and electronics, which Gann describes as his \"most ambitious work to date.\"

\"Kyle Gann\'s reputation as a composer is beginning to equal his renown as a writer on new music,\" wrote Paul Griffiths in the New York Times. Gann is an internationally known authority on American music and is new-music critic for the Village Voice. He is the author of The Music of Conlon Nancarrow and American Music in the Twentieth Century; in 2001 a collection of his Village Voice columns, It\'s Only As Good As It Sounds, will be published by the University of California Press. His works have been performed at the New Music America, Bang on a Can, and Spoleto festivals and in Europe. He is the recipient of a commission from Music in Motion for his \"Astrological Studies\" and an Individual Artist\'s Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. In addition to his pieces for the Village Voice, he has written more than 1600 articles on new music for over thirty-five publications, including Perspectives of New Music, Contemporary Music Review, Chicago Tribune, New York Times, Chicago Sun Times, Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart, New Grove Dictionary of Musicians, and Fanfare Magazine. Gann has taught at Columbia University, Brooklyn College, Bucknell University, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His music is recorded on the Lovely Music, New Tone, and Monroe Street labels.
