GALA MUSIC CONCERT AT BARD COLLEGE FEATURES PERFORMANCES BY THE VOCAL AND JAZZ ENSEMBLES AND THE HUDSON VALLEY GAMELAN
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY—The Music Program at Bard College will hold its annual winter Gala Concert on Wednesday, December 13, at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall. The concert, which is free and open to the public, features performances by the Bard Vocal and Jazz ensembles and the Hudson Valley Gamelan.
The Vocal Ensemble, conducted by James Bagwell, will perform Lodovico Viadona\'s \"Exultate, Justi,\" selections from \"Lagrime d\'Amante al Selpolcro dell\'Amata\" by Claudio Monteverdi, and songs from American Tune Books. The Jazz Ensemble, directed by Thurman Barker, will perform Barker\'s \"Tenor Tantrum,\" Herbie Hancock\'s \"Maiden Voyage,\" Duke Ellington\'s \"Main Stem\" and \"The Star-Crossed Lovers\" featuring Barbara Smith, Irving Berlin\'s \"Blue Skies\" featuring Sheena Ray, Johnny Mercer\'s \"Sky Lark,\" Antonio Carlos Jobim\'s \"The Girl from Ipanema,\" and Horace Silver\'s \"Nica\'s Dream.\" The Hudson Valley Gamelan, under the direction of Andy McGraw, will perform \"Kapi Raja\" by Wayan Beratha, \"Cendrawasih\" by Nyoman Windha, and three traditional Balinese songs, \"Pendet,\" \"Lengker,\" and \"Topeng Tua.\"
