A READING BY LINDA ZISQUIT, AMERICAN POET IN ISRAEL, MODERN WOMAN IN JUDAISM April 18th reading commemorates Holocaust Memorial Day at Bard College
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY-The Jewish Studies and Gender Studies Programs, the Languages and Literature Division at Bard College present "A Reading by Linda Zisquit, American Poet in Israel, Modern Woman in Judaism" on Wednesday, April 18, at 7:00 p.m. in Room 101 of the F. W. Olin Humanities Building. The reading, which is free and open to the public, commemorates Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) which falls on April 19.
Linda Zisquit will combine a reading of her own work, translations of Yona Wallach's poems, and works connected to the Holocaust, particularly those of modern Israeli poet Rivka Miriam. She has been working with Miriam for years to translate her work and is currently compiling the Selected Poems of Rivka Miriam to be published in the United States.
Zisquit was born in Buffalo, New York, and educated at Tufts, Harvard, and the State University of New York at Buffalo. Her two collections of poetry are Ritual Bath and Unopened Letters. She has translated (from Hebrew) The Book of Ruth, Yehuda Amichai's Desert Poems, and Wild Light: Selected Poems of Yona Wallach, which was awarded a translation grant from the National Endowment of the Arts and nominated for a PEN Translation Award. Zisquit lives in Jerusalem and teaches poetry and writing at Hebrew University and the Wesleyan University Overseas Program in Israel. She also runs an art gallery, which represents contemporary Israeli artists.
