BARD COLLEGE COMMUNITY GARDEN OFFERS POPULAR FREE CHILDREN'S GARDENING PROGRAM FOR THIRD YEAR

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-The Bard College Community Garden will again offer the free children's gardening program this summer. The program is offered to children ages 2 through 11. Two sessions of five weeks each will be offered, from Monday, June 25, to Friday, July 27, and Monday, July 30, to Friday, August 31. Children will be divided into three age divisions during the two sessions: Kinder Gardeners, Green Thumbs, and Community Gardeners.

The program offers a variety of activities ranging from plant identification and care to garden related arts and crafts. Activities vary from one age group to another. Participants of the program, their families, as well as other community members, are welcome to attend the weekly potluck dinners on Wednesday evenings from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the garden and bring home portions of the harvest.

Kinder Gardeners, ages 2 to 4, will meet on Monday mornings from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Parents are asked to accompany their children. Kinder Gardeners will spend their time with various garden work and activities, craft projects, scavenger hunts, and games.

Green Thumbs, ages 5 to 7, will meet on Wednesdays from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.. They will work as a team to plant and maintain the vegetables and flowers in the garden.

Community Gardeners, ages 8 to 11, will meet on Fridays from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. In addition to planting, weeding, and watering the garden, each participant will have a special garden project to design, conduct, and present to others at the end of the session.

For further information and to register for a summer session or special program in the Community Garden at Bard College, call Ryan Flowers at 518-537-5850.
