"CIVIL LIBERTIES AND FOREIGN POLICY" IS THE TOPIC OF A PANEL DISCUSSION AT BARD COLLEGE October 2 program features James Chace, Sanjib Baruah, and Alan Sussman
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.?As part of a continuing series designed to respond to the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, Bard College is hosting a panel discussion of the topic "Civil Liberties and Foreign Policy" on Tuesday, October 2. The free event begins at 7:00 p.m. in Room 115 of the Olin Language Center and is open to the public.
Panelists include James Chace, the Paul W. Williams Professor of Government and Public Law and Administration at Bard; Sanjib Baruah, professor of political studies at Bard; and Alan Sussman, visiting associate professor of constitutional law and senior fellow of the College.
Chace, the director of the Bard Globalization and International Affairs Program in Manhattan, is the author of Acheson: The Secretary of State Who Created the American World; The Consequences of Peace; Solvency, The Price of Survival; and America Invulnerable: The Quest for Absolute Security from 1812 to Star Wars. He is a frequent contributor to Foreign Affairs, New York Review of Books, New York Times Magazine, New York Times Book Review, and other publications.
Baruah, who has taught at Bard since 1983, is the author of India Against Itself: Assam and the Politics of Nationality. He has also written articles in Asian Survey, Cultural Survival Quarterly, Development and Change, Modern Asian Studies, Socialism and Democracy, and South Asian Bulletin. Baruah is a contributor to Journal of Asian Studies, National Political Science Review, Political Science Quarterly, Economic and Political Weekly (Bombay), and other publications.
Sussman is an attorney who specializes in constitutional law. He practices in Kingston, New York.
