BARD COLLEGE CHAMBER GROUP AND STRING QUARTET WILL PERFORM ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18 Program includes works by Haydn and Beethoven

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-Two new music ensembles at Bard College, a chamber group and a string quartet, will perform on Sunday, November 18, in Blum Hall on the Bard campus. The concert, presented by the music program at Bard, is free and open to the public and begins at 8:00 p.m.

The Bard String Quartet--coached by the Colorado Quartet, artists in residence at Bard--will perform Haydn's Quartet in C Major ("The Bird"), Op. 33, No. 3. The members, four Bard second-year students, are violinists Adria Otte and Molly Foresta, violist Sophie Alexander, and cellist Hannah Avellone.

The Bard Chamber Group, under the direction of Luis Garcia-Renart, professor of music at Bard, will perform Beethoven's Septet, Op. 20. The chamber group is composed of Bard students, alumni/ae, faculty, and area community members. They are clarinetist Karen Benezia '04, hornist Daniel Fox '05, bassoonist Cornelia McGiver '85, violinist Rachel Handman (former member of the Bard College Community Orchestra), Nadège Foofat (a graduate of Juilliard and area resident), cellist Ling Kwan '93 (adjunct faculty member of the music program), and bassist Craig Mourton (principal bassist of the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra).

Luis Garcia-Renart says that he formed the chamber group this year after reaching the right available balance of students, alumni/ae, faculty, and community members. "With the core of first-year student hornist Daniel Fox, who is a terrific player, as well as clarinetist Benezia and bassoonist McGiver, I was able to develop this group. We are all looking forward to this performance."

For further information, call the music program at 845-758-7250.
