RENOWNED CALLIGRAPHER AND ARTIST HARRISON XINSHI TU TO MAKE PRESENTATION AT BARD COLLEGE ON APRIL 18

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Bard in China will present a talk and demonstration by noted calligrapher and artist Harrison Xinshi Tu on Thursday April 18. The event, "Chinese Calligraphy Today: East Meets West; So Ancient, So Modern," is free and open to the public and takes place at 4:30 p.m. in Room 115 of the Olin Language Center.

Harrison Xinshi Tu, who was born in Suzhou City, China, is an artist whose works of calligraphy have been exhibited throughout the United States, Japan, Korea, and Singapore. He is a visiting member of the faculty at Naropa University, Boulder, Colorado, where he teaches Chinese calligraphy and culture. He is also editor-in-chief of the Chinese American Post, a Chinese-language newspaper with a circulation in the Rocky Mountain region.

Tu's works have been published in prestigious albums of calligraphic art including The Selected Works of Distinguished Contemporary Chinese Calligraphers, and in numerous journals, such as Calligraphy magazine. A book of his work, The Wisdom and Art of Chinese Calligraphy, was published in 1998. In addition, Tu has had individual exhibitions at the National Art Gallery in Beijing, China, and has a permanent exhibition at the Denver Art Museum. Tu has a master of arts degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
