"POETRY FOR PEACE," A READING BY MORE THAN 20 POETS, WILL TAKE PLACE AT BARD COLLEGE ON FEBRUARY 27
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—On Thursday, February 27, at 6:30 p.m., more than 20 poets will be participating in "Poetry for Peace." Free and open to the public, the program will be held in the multipurpose room of the Bertelsmann Campus Center.
Readings will be given by Bard faculty members including Chinua Achebe, Christie Achebe, JoAnne Akalaitis, John Ashbery, Mary Caponegro, Bruce Chilton, Robert Kelly, Ann Lauterbach, and Joan Retallack. They will be joined by many poets from the area community including George Quasha, Ed Sanders, and Chuck Stein.
In addition to poems read in English, the program will feature poems read in more than 15 languages, with English translations. The foreign languages represented include Aramaic, Chinese, French, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Igbo, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Joan Retallack, coordinator of the program and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Professor of Humanities at Bard, says the reading is one of many taking place across the country in response to the possibility of war.
