POET KATHY MAC WILL READ FROM HER RECENT WORK AT BARD COLLEGE ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Languages and Literature Division of Bard College presents a reading by award-winning Canadian poet Kathy Mac on Friday, November 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 102 of the F. W. Olin Humanities Building, followed by a reception. This program is free and open to the public.

Mac's first book of poems, Nail Builders Plan for Strength and Growth, won the Gerald Lampert Award for best first book of poems published in Canada in 2002 (and was shortlisted for the Governor General's award). Halifax’s Sunday Herald notes, "This collection is a beautiful accomplishment. From the stunning surrealist cover illustration and design by Mac and Brenda Conroy to the lyrics that combine the biblical adumbrations of William Blake and the experimental language of M. Nourbese Philip and Erin Mouré, this book is sizzle, crackle, dazzle, pizzazz, amazement, and deft dynamiting."

Mac is poetry editor for Pottersfield Portfolio. In addition to many chapbook publications, her work has appeared in Milton Acorn Memorial Anthology, More Garden Varieties, II; Poets '88 Anthology; and The Northern Red Oak. Her poems, fiction, and visual art have also appeared in Acta Victoriana, Antigonish Review, Atlantis, Critical Mass, CV2, Fathom, The Fiddlehead, Fireweed, Germination, the Halifax Daily News, Henry Street, The New Quarterly, PRISM international, Room of One's Own, Sisyphus, sub-TERRAIN, and Zygote. She is a professor in the English Department at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada.
