CANTILENA, A CLASSICAL DUO, WILL PERFORM "MUSIC OF THE NIGHT" AT BARD COLLEGE ON NOVEMBER 13 Program features works by Debussy, Fauré, Piazzolla, and others performed by flutist Melissa Sweet and guitarist Gregory Dinger

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-The classical duo Cantilena-consisting of flutist Melissa Sweet and guitarist Gregory Dinger-will perform a program titled "Music of the Night" on Thursday, November 13, at Bard College. Free and open to the public, the concert is presented by the Bard Music Program and begins at 8:00 p.m. in Bard Hall.

"Music of the Night" includes compositions inspired by dreams and other nighttime phenomena. The program will range from famous pieces arranged in new flute and guitar settings (Debussy's "Clair de Lune") to some new pieces by contemporary composer-flutists Geoffrey Kidde and Gary Schocker. Other composers included on the program are Gabriel Fauré, Astor Piazzolla, Kent Kennan and Robert Beaser, Agustin Barrios, and Nikita Koshkin.

Cantilena combines the talents of two Hudson Valley musicians flutist, Melissa Sweet of Saugerties and guitarist Gregory Dinger of Woodstock. Since the late 1980s the duo has appeared together in public recitals and at private occasions throughout the region, with repertoire ranging from baroque suites to impressionist pieces, from a Carmen fantasy to a Gershwin medley, from the most avant-garde new music to popular tunes of the Renaissance. to the Beatles. Cantilena is committed to the performance of contemporary composers including works by Duarte, Haufrecht, Hoover, Miyagi, Piazzolla, Shatin, Tower, and Zaninelli in their repertoire. Each year they participate in the "Now and Present Flute" seminar with Patricia Spencer at Bard College.
