BARD MUSIC PROGRAM OFFERS FIVE CONCERTS IN DECEMBER

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Music Program at Bard College will offer five concerts in December. For further information, call 845-758-7250 (except as noted below). On Tuesday, December 7, there will be a performance by the Bard College Electro-Acoustic Ensemble, directed by Richard Teitelbaum, professor of music at Bard. This program begins at 8:00 p.m. in Bard Hall. On Wednesday, December 8, the Bard College Chamber Singers and Community Chorus, directed by James Bagwell, associate professor of music at Bard, will perform Igor Stravinsky’s Mass and Franz Joseph Haydn’s Theresienmesse. This program begins at 8:00 p.m. in the Sosnoff Theater of the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. Admission $5, free for Bard students. For further information, call the box office at 845-758-7900. On Thursday, December 9, there will be a concert by the Bard College Big Band, directed by Thurman Barker, associate professor of music, performing works by modern jazz composers Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, and Kenny Dorham; and by the Bard guitar ensemble. This program will begin at 8:00 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the Bertelsmann Campus Center. On Tuesday, December 14, the Da Capo Chamber Players and the Colorado Quartet will present an evening of new compositions and orchestrations by Bard composers. The program—coordinated by Joan Tower, Asher B. Edelman Professor in the Arts at Bard—will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Bard Hall. On Wednesday, December 15, the Bard College Orchestra, also under Bagwell’s direction, will perform Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture and Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 5 in B Minor. This program will begin at 8:00 p.m. in the Sosnoff Theater of the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. Admission $5, free for Bard students.
