HUDSON VALLEY CEREBRAL PALSY HOSTS A BENEFIT WALK AND CONCERT AT BARD COLLEGE ON OCTOBER 16

The musical celebration features Richie Havens at the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The second annual Walk for Opportunity will feature a concert by the legendary Richie Havens to benefit the Hudson Valley Cerebral Palsy Association (HVCPA) on Sunday, October 16. Both the benefit walk and concert take place at Bard College, a cosponsor of the event. Registration for the Walk for Opportunity, a 3-mile walk or run, begins at 11:30 a.m., with the walk commencing at 12:30 p.m. The Richie Havens concert follows the walk and begins at 3:30 p.m. in the Sosnoff Theater of the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. Richie Havens first emerged from New York City’s Greenwich Village folk scene in the early 1960s, and in 1969 inspired and electrified an audience of more than half a million with his opening performance at the Woodstock Festival. Four decades later Havens remains one of the most recognizable voices and admired lyricists in popular music. Billboard magazine says, “This acoustic soul giant truly seems to be getting more inspiring and graceful with age,” and Guitar Player echoes that he is, “as vibrant and purposeful as ever.” “The Hudson Valley Cerebral Palsy Association is honored that Richie Havens, a renowned advocate of the rights of all people everywhere, will perform at this fund-raising event,” says Melissa Kamen of the HVCPA. For almost 20 years, the HVCPA, a not-for-profit organization, has been providing services to people who experience disabilities and to their families throughout the Hudson Valley Community, ensuring the highest quality of life through clinical and health services, children’s services, adult day programs, and residential, advocacy, and supported employment. In addition, HVCPA provides some of these services to community members who might be unable to secure quality health care and support services. The benefit concert ticket prices are $25 for adults, $15 for students and seniors. Tickets are on sale now through the Fisher Center Box Office at 845-758-7900. For more information and to register for the Walk for Opportunity, call 845-878-9078, ext. 145. (Donations and pledges are requested for participation.)
