Bard College to Host Hindustani Music Workshop And Concert on March 15

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.— On Thursday, March 15, Bard College will host a workshop-concert of Hindustani music performed by Atmic Vision, an Indian classical music trio with bansuri (Indian bamboo flute), double bass, and tabla and percussion. Atmic Vision plays instrumental renditions of raga-based bhajan songs of India. With its innovative multicultural blending of Eastern and Western, classical and jazz influences, Atmic Vision creates music of profound peace, purity and rhythmic vitality. The program includes selections from Atmic Vision's new CD, Expanding Horizons. The performance is free and open to the public and takes place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Bard Hall on the Bard College campus. The event is presented by Bard’s Music Program, in conjunction with the Asian Studies and Religious Studies programs. Annada (Butto) Prasanna Pattannaik is one of India’s foremost North Indian classical flutists. Performing throughout India, Europe, and Asia, he is the most sought-after flutist in southern India’s recording industry. The great Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia was his teacher. Muthu Kumar Varadarajan, one of India’s rising tabla stars, has performed with many of India’s leading musicians in India and the United States. He recently opened his own school for Indian drumming in Bangalore. He is a long-time disciple of tabla legend Ustad Zakir Hussain. Paul Erhard, the leading Western double-bass soloist performing Indian music, is the professor of double bass at the University of Colorado College of Music in Boulder. He has studied extensively in India. He holds masters and doctoral degrees from Juilliard. For more information, call 845-758-6294. # # #
