Screening of The Last Winter with Filmmaker Larry Fessenden

BARD COLLEGE PRESENTS AN EVENING WITH FILMMAKER LARRY FESSENDEN ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13

Program Includes Screening of Fessenden’s The Last Winter Followed by Q & A with Director

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Film Program at Bard College presents an evening with writer, director, and producer Larry Fessenden on Tuesday, November 13. The program, free and open to the public, begins at 8:00 p.m. in the theater of the Avery Arts Center, and includes a screening of Fessenden’s most recent film, The Last Winter, as well as a question-and-answer session with him.

“Elegantly restrained horror . . . metaphorically resonant . . . . feverishly real, terrifying,” are just some of the comments about The Last Winter, from the New York Times review by Manohla Dargis. The film—written, directed and edited by Fessenden—premiered at the 2006 Toronto and Los Angeles Film Festivals is a harrowing tale of an Alaskan oil-dredging expedition gone mysteriously awry and stars Ron Perlman, James LeGros, Connie Britton, Kevin Corrigan, and Zach Gilford.

Larry Fessenden is the writer, director, and editor of the award-winning art-horror movies Habit, No Telling, and Wendigo. He has operated the production company Glass Eye Pix since 1985, with the mission of supporting individual voices in the arts. Fessenden is the recipient of the Someone to Watch Award at the L.A. Spirit Awards.

As a character actor Fessenden has appeared in numerous films, including Neil Jordan’s The Brave One, Jim Jarmusch’s Broken Flowers, Martin Scorsese’s Bringing Out the Dead, Steve Buscemi’s Animal Factory, Brad Anderson’s Session 9, and Dan Harris’s Imaginary Heroes. Fessenden stars in Habit, and in the Sundance pictures Margarita Happy Hour (Ilya Chaiken) and River of Grass (Kelly Reichardt, visiting assistant professor of film and electronic arts at Bard).

Since 2003, Fessenden has been a producer on various projects including JT Petty’s Red Earth, Ilya Chaiken’s Liberty Kid, Douglas Buck’s remake of DePalma’s Sisters, Jeff Winner’s Satellite, and David Gebroe’s Zombie Honeymoon. Under his low-budget horror banner ScareFlix, he has produced Ti West’s The Roost and Trigger Man and James Felix McKenney’s The Off Season and Automatons. This year, two new ScareFlix will be released: Graham Reznick’s I Can See You and Glenn McQuaid’s I Sell the Dead, starring Dominic Monaghan, Ron Perlman, and Fessenden.
