Graduate Program in Vocal Arts Offers Information Session in Manhattan

BARD CONSERVATORY’S GRADUATE PROGRAM IN VOCAL ARTS OFFERS INFORMATION SESSION FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS IN NEW YORK CITY ON NOVEMBER 29

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Graduate Program in Vocal Arts of The Bard College Conservatory of Music—designed and led by the renowned American soprano and faculty member Dawn Upshaw—presents an information session for prospective students on Thursday, November 29, at 7:00 p.m. at Bard Hall, located at 410 West 58th Street.

The Graduate Program in Vocal Arts at the Bard College Conservatory of Music is a unique master of music program in vocal performance. Upshaw created the program to prepare the young singer to meet the special artistic and practical challenges of a musical career in the 21st century. The two-year master of music degree program balances a respect for established repertory and expressive techniques with the flexibility and curiosity needed to keep abreast of evolving musical ideas. A group of master voice teachers, coaches, and instructors in Alexander Technique, movement, and diction is supplemented by guest artists drawn from the professional musical world. Previous guest artists have included the conductor James Conlon, Metropolitan Opera coaches Robert Cowart, Ken Noda, and Pierre Vallet; the stage directors Marc Verzatt and Peter Sellars; and the singers Phyllis Curtin and Lucy Shelton.

The program also includes a strong practical component with seminars and classes on career skills led by some of the preeminent figures in arts management and administration. Each year a select group of up to eight singers is invited to join the program through an intensive audition process. Classes are held on the Annandale campus of Bard College as well as locations in New York City.

The information session for prospective students is hosted by associate director Kayo Iwama. For information and reservations, call 845-758-7131, e-mail [email protected], or visit www.bard.edu/vap.
