Berlin Summer Studio
Get an insider’s view of Berlin’s vibrant art world through a unique course which features a different theme each summer.
Summer 2017: Sound and NecessityThis course grows out of the relationship between art, public space, and the urban environment, as well as new genre and hybrid practices such as social engagement and sound art. Students will treat Berlin as a studio, immersing themselves in the rich artistic offerings of the city and its surroundings. Group examination of Berlin-‐specific artworks in public spaces and museums, as well as research in archives and acoustic spaces throughout the city, will strengthen students’ critical engagement with histories of artistic production in the German capital. In addition, excursions will include individual artist studios, special exhibitions, and notable international art events.
