Begin in Berlin: A First-Year Experience

Bard College students have the opportunity to spend one or both semesters of their first year studying at Bard College Berlin: A Liberal Arts University.

A select group of Bard College first-year students may now begin their college experience at Bard's newest campus in Berlin. Begin in Berlin students participate in an intellectual community like no other. With small, discussion-based classes taught in English, an innovative and challenging curriculum, an international student body, and a world-class faculty, Bard College Berlin provides a truly unique experience in the intellectual and artistic hub of Europe. 



Students at Bard College Berlin participate in the college’s exceptional academic program, which provides an immersion in intellectual history from ancient Greece to the present day, with rigorous concentration on philosophy, economics, politics, literature, art history, film, and theater and studio arts. *Note: All enrolled students are required to have health insurance. $1,280 is the cost for a 12-month insurance plan that will be charged to your account unless you have proof of alternate health insurance. The Bard College Student Health Plan is offered to all Bard students and is global in coverage.

An incoming student must submit their deposit to Bard in order to participate in the program. After May 1, an email is then sent to all deposited students with a link to an application form. If you have any questions, please email

Current Bard first-years can apply for a spring semester in Berlin. The deadline to apply for spring semester in Berlin is October 15, 2015. To apply for spring semester in Berlin, click on the forms page, and go to "For Current Bard College First-Year Students."
