Undergraduate Program

The undergraduate curriculum of the Bard College Conservatory of Music is based on the premise that the best musician is a well-educated one. We believe that the best education for an aspiring musician combines intense musical training with the wider intellectual aspects of a liberal arts education.

In this unique undergraduate program every student in the conservatory is enrolled in a five year double degree program leading to both Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts degrees. This integrated five year program combines the benefits of an intensive world-class musical education with the advantages of a broad exposure to the liberal arts and sciences.

The Bard College Conservatory offers unparalleled musical opportunities for its students. For example, concerto competition winners perform twice in subscription concerts with the American Symphony Orchestra; students perform alongside faculty in chamber music concerts at Bard and elsewhere; and students perform at concerts of the Bard Music Festival.

Because all conservatory students pursue the double degree, there exists a supportive community which supports equally the musical and academic goals of young musicians and provides the high level training essential to success. This double degree program is designed for the talented young musician who aspires to a professional performing career.
