Student Orientation

Student Orientation

The Bard Abroad in Vienna program begins with a comprehensive online predeparture training. Upon arrival on campus, students undertake a multiday orientation that focuses on program expectations (academic and behavioral), health and safety information, cultural adjustment strategies, and an introduction to life in Vienna.

Housing at CEU

Housing at CEU

All participants in the Bard-CEU study abroad program live in shared apartments while studying in Vienna. The apartments are located in Margareten, the fifth district of Vienna, and within commuting distance of CEU. The apartments are fully furnished and include internet access.

CEU Campus Facilities

  • CEU's Vienna campus is located in Favoriten, the Austrian capital's multicultural 10th district and one of the city's most diverse locales. It is easily accessible from across the city and beyond, with tram stops and railway and underground stations nearby.
  • Creating a collaborative working and learning environment is at the core of CEU's vision. Each classroom is equipped with smartboards as well as microphones and cameras that enable video conferencing with just a few taps. A 200-seat auditorium and a tiered classroom have been created for high-profile lectures and large events.
  • Outside classroom hours, the CEU community has access to learning and social spaces, including a library, computer and PhD labs, lounges and a cafe. The library offers a wide range of services to support learning and research, from electronic and print resources to computer workstations and bookable collaboration rooms.

Student Activities and Clubs

CEU actively encourages and supports students’ interests and activities, which range from theater and opera visits to dance classes and ice skating parties. At the start of each academic year, CEU surveys student interests, and organizes different events and programs accordingly throughout the year.

There are many clubs to join, from chess and basketball to film and literature. The CEU Debate Society, one of the more prominent student organizations, regularly participates in, hosts, and coorganizes international debate competitions.
