BRAVE is a professionally directed student-service organization whose members provide anonymous and confidential crisis intervention, supportive counseling, advocacy, and ongoing education to the Bard community. Although BRAVE staff members receive particular training in issues relating to sexual assault, sexual harassment, relationship violence, and sexuality, BRAVE counselors also receive training in eating disorders, depression and suicide, sexual orientation, loneliness, isolation, anxiety, and social and academic issues.

  • Contact a BRAVE Counselor
    BRAVE is available 24/7 to the Bard College campus community in Annandale, including to students who are enrolled on the Annandale campus but live off campus. To contact a BRAVE counselor, call Security at 845-758-7777 and ask to speak to a BRAVE counselor.

BRAVE Sexual Assault Support Group

BRAVE now offers a student-led sexual assault support group geared toward giving students a space to share their experiences and stories in a safe space of empathy, affirmation, and solidarity to those who have been impacted by sexual assault.

Services

  • Support
    BRAVE counselors are available to provide free and confidential short-term peer counseling to members of the Bard community while classes are in session 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Annonimity is honored when requested during phone sessions. Face-to-face sessions are available upon request in the BRAVE office located in Old Robbins room #194. BRAVE is the only service on the Bard campus that can be contacted anonymously.

  • Education
    BRAVE is committed to ongoing community education. We are available to the community for training sessions and/or presentations on BRAVE related topics.

    ADVOCACY

    BRAVE counselors are trained to work with clients at their request, to access or navigate through resources and systems, such as Bard's administration, law enforcement agencies and legal processes, medical treatment, and health services.

Rebecca Nidorf, Director

Rebecca Nidorf, LCSW-R has worked in the trauma field for more than 20 years. She has experience as a therapist, educator, trainer, and consultant in the areas of Rape, Sexual Assault and harrassment, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, childhood sexual abuse and incest, relationship violence and family violence. Ms. Nidorf is available to meet with any member of the Bard community free and confidentially, and can be reached at Ext. 7557 and [email protected]. She is located in the BRAVE Office in Old Robbins room #194.
