About the Professionals of Color Group
Bard Professionals of Color exists to provide mutual support to staff of color in their work at Bard and as professionals in their respective fields. It also exists as a safe and affirming social space for staff of color with a focus on fostering community. The Professionals of Color group works to bring institutional equity and inclusion to the forefront, particularly in regards to departmental transparency on evaluation and promotion criteria. Professional Development Working Group
Charge: Coordinate professional development opportunities that focus on the needs of staff of color.
Goals: Fostering mentoring, networking, benchmarking and idea sharing opportunities for members through in-person events, online platforms and collaborations in the Bard network and beyond.
- Conduct a needs assessment for the Professionals of Color
- Secure institutional support/funding
Social Working Group
Dr. Kahan Sablo, Dean of Inclusive Excellence
- Host a monthly informal gathering/event for the Professionals of Color to help build community
- Ensure recognition of Professionals of Color work as being supportive of the institutional mission
Assessment Transparency Working Group
Charge: Researching/proposing avenues to ensure a campus climate that celebrates employee and student diversity. This includes equity in salary and promotion, a review/recommendation of department diversity assessments, the administration and review of campus climate surveys, a review of employee access and institutional responses to complaints of harassment or discrimination.

Student of Color Engagement Working Group
Charge: Supporting students of color with stronger connections/integration into the campus.
- Identify and engage with students of color in the following areas:
- Community building among themselves and within the larger Bard network
- Social/emotional resource building
- Professional development
- Provide students with access to available staff within the Professionals of Color working group to serve as mentors and campus resources.
Spirituality Working Group
Charge: Establish and maintain a more robust culture of diversity within spirituality, one that honors the intersection of religion and the experiences of people of color.
- Collaborating with the Office of Spiritual Life
- Support student engagement
- Provide diverse opportunities and services to students and Professionals of Color
- Institutional support/funding
- Hire a charismatic chaplain, equipped to serve the needs of students and Professionals of Color on campus
