As a joint major in Written Arts and Spanish Studies, I immersed myself in Spanish language studies and deepened my understanding of local art, history, and contemporary Latin American literature. With the support of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, I could have an experience that made me more adventurous and patient in learning through discovery, without having to think about financial concerns.”

“Additionally, the Gilman program's partnership with Reach the World allowed me to share my journey with two Michigan high school Spanish classes. I documented my experiences in articles and virtual meetings, promoting study abroad and Spanish education. To effectively communicate my experiences, I learned to think more deeply about what I was learning and become more aware of the place I was lucky enough to live in. The program gave me a way to promote study abroad, travel to Ecuador, and Spanish language education.”

Come learn about the Simon's Rock Tropical Ecology Program on the island of Montserrat

Come meet Dr. Thomas Coote, Director of the Simon's Rock Field Station in Montserrat to learn more about the semester-long Tropical Ecology Program this coming Spring. Course work includes:
· Diversity of freshwater streams, tropical forests, and marine biology
· The island’s volcano and its impact on the environment and people of Montserrat
· Endangered species including the Montserrat Oriole, Montserrat Racer & Chicken Frog
· The cultural history of Montserrat, agriculture and sustainable development
Session will be held in the Reem-Kayden Center room 200 (AKA Seminar Room), at 5 pm on Monday, September 14.
