MES Fall Film Series Screening: Phantom Beirut (1998) dir. Ghassan Salhab, 117 mins.

Set at the tail-end of the seemingly eternal "civil" war in Lebanon, Phantom Beirut centers on the return of Khalil, who 10 years prior had forged his own death during fighting and slipped out of the city. An ode to the city and a rumination on memory, pain, and resistance at once, Phantom Beirut offers a personal and emotive perspective on the lives of those who endured the decade and a half of strife.
