Bard Professor and Celebrated Filmmaker Jacqueline Goss Named 2012 USA Rockefeller Fellow
“I’m very thankful for this fellowship,” says Goss. “With few funding sources for truly experimental and independent media, the USA Rockefeller award means I can make my next film. It’s an honor to be among the 50 artists recognized this year.”
Jacqueline Goss works in film, video, animation, and programming. Goss often works in two-dimensional digital animation to create “animated documentaries,” where, in her words, “historical document meets the unabashedly subjective eye.” Her most recent film, The Observers (2011), documents the climatologists who work at the Mt. Washington Weather Observatory. Her works have been screened at numerous venues including the Museum of Modern Art, London Film Festival, Rotterdam Film Festival, Anthology Film Archive in New York, and the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, Ohio. She has been awarded an Herb Alpert Award (2007), among other honors.
About United States Artists
A coalition of leading foundations—Ford, Rockefeller, Prudential, and Rasmuson—realized the need for supporting artists in America, and in an unprecedented private investment, launched United States Artists in September 2005 with $22 million in seed funding. Their initial investment allows USA to fund the USA Fellows program, which annually awards $50,000 unrestricted grants to 50 artists across the country in eight artistic disciplines. Every one of these awards is available to be underwritten, and patrons from across the country have stepped up to do so, including Eli Broad, Michael Bloomberg, Ella Cisneros, Agnes Gund, Laurie Tisch, and Steve Wynn. To date USA has leveraged the $22 million from its founders and has raised a total of $51 million. For more information, go to www.unitedstatesartists.org.
