The College will offer supportive measures to any individual who experiences gender-based misconduct and any other prohibited discrimination. Supportive measures are non-disciplinary and non-punitive and are offered to all parties. These measures are intended to help ensure the well-being and safety of community members and to restore and/or preserve equal access to the college’s educational program or activity while not unreasonably burdening the other party.

Potential supportive measures may include: change in campus housing, change in schedule, academic accommodations, access to counseling on and off campus, No Contact Orders, and any other actions deemed appropriate by the Title IX Coordinator.

How to Request Supportive Measures

Following an allegation of gender-based misconduct, the Title IX Coordinator can assist with providing supportive measures and accommodations. Supportive measures are available regardless of whether you would like to make a formal complaint or pursue and investigation. You can request supportive measures using the form below.

    SAFE Exams
Individuals who have experienced a recent sexual assault are encouraged to seek medical care and should consider seeking a Sexual Assault Forensic Exam (“SAFE Exam”) at a local hospital. This exam assesses injury, collects forensic evidence, and provides medical care (including concerns of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases). SAFE Exams are free. Transportation can be arranged through the Office of Title IX and Nondiscrimination, Safety and Security, BRAVE counselors (845-758-7777; ask for BRAVE), and the Rape/Sexual Assault Hotline (845-452-7272). Individuals may undergo a SAFE Exam without making a report to law enforcement or to the College. Prior to the exam do not bathe, wash, douche, smoke, change clothing, or brush one’s teeth. For purposes of evidence collection, the SAFE Exam should be conducted within 96 hours of an incident. It is best not to take fluids or use the bathroom before the examination. Even in instances when individuals do not want forensic evidence collected, health care providers can still treat injuries and take steps to address concerns of pregnancy and/or sexually transmitted infections.

The following are hospitals in the Hudson Valley that provide SAFE exams:
    Midhudson Regional
    Northern Dutchess
    Vassar Brothers Medical Center

We’ll come and pick you up and take you where you need to go on campus, free of charge.” Night Rides runs 7 days a week, between 9 PM and 1 AM and transports students across campus, free of charge. Call security to request a Night Ride.

The space is named for Alexander Gilson (c. 1824–89), an African American who labored for 50 years at Montgomery Place, now part of the Bard College campus. Gilson became head gardener at Montgomery Place and eventually opened up his own nursery business. Gilson Place is open to all members of the Bard Community. Follow Gilson Place on Instagram here.
