Student Life at Bard College Berlin

The student body at Bard College Berlin is small yet highly international, and it includes not only full-time BCB students but also visiting students from the Bard College network, the European Erasmus exchange network, and other partner institutions, as well as students from areas of crisis. Watch the video to learn more about the campus experience at BCB, from residence life to student organizations and other opportunities to engage outside the classroom.

Life on Campus

  • Housing and Dining
Visiting juniors and Begin in Berlin students live in shared double rooms in dormitories or suite-style housing on campus. Meals are provided at the campus cafeteria using organic local ingredients. There is always a vegetarian option.

  • DerDieDas Haus
DerDieDas Haus creates community by learning German together. Native and non-native German speakers live as flatmates on the BCB campus. By using German as your everyday language, you build friendships and share learning experiences while expanding your language skills. Together, you make a home for yourselves in Berlin.

Student Life

  • BCB Abroad Orientation
All Bard Abroad in Berlin programs begin with a comprehensive predeparture information session. Upon arrival on campus, students undertake a two-day orientation that focuses on program expectations (academic and behavioral), health and safety information, cultural adjustment strategies, and an introduction to life in Berlin.
  • Student Activities
Each semester at Bard College Berlin kicks off with the Berlin Weekend—personalized walking tours led by faculty, students, and staff through their favorite neighborhood. The arts faculty hosts an Open Studio at the end of each semester to publicly showcase student work. Other events organized include concerts, workshops, lectures, informal community meetings, dinners, sporting events, and cultural day trips.
