New Scholarships

We are excited to launch a series of new scholarships and research assistantships offered to incoming graduate students showing academic promise and interest in incorporating gender awareness, government finance, institutional theory, and labor issues in the study of the macroeconomy. These are in addition to our ongoing scholarships named for the Levy Institute’s late Distinguished Scholars Hyman P. Minsky and Wynne Godley, awarded to students displaying significant academic achievement and interest in the study of financial instability and macromodeling.

Scholarships and Assistantships

The Hyman P. Minsky Scholarship is awarded to a student interested in the topics of banking, finance, and financialization, and the impacts of fiscal and monetary policy.

The Wynne Godley Scholarship is awarded to a student interested in macroeconomic modeling and, in particular, stock-flow consistent modeling.

The Scholarship in Gender Studies is awarded to a student showing academic promise and interest in incorporating gender awareness in the study of the macroeconomy. Awarded in memory of Nilüfer A. Cagatay.

The Scholarship in Institutional Economics, established in memory of John F. Henry, is awarded to a student interested in research in political economy, historical and evolutionary analysis of modern market economies, and history of economic thought. Made possible by the generous donation of Charlene Heinen.

The Research Assistantship in Labor Studies provides support to Levy Institute graduate students to conduct research on issues of employment, unemployment, and fiscal policy. Applicants who are awarded this assistantship will also engage with the work and unpublished papers of Robert Prasch, a longtime friend of the Institute and scholar of institutional thought and labor issues. Made possible by the generous donation of Dr. Falguni A. Sheth.

The Levy Institute has also established the John F. Henry Prize for best thesis paper in honor of our colleague and former Levy graduate professor.

Financial Aid

All applicants to both the M.A. and M.S. programs are eligible for financial aid.

  • Applicants requesting any sort of financial award must submit all documents and relevant supplementary information, such as tax documents and income and bank statements.
  • All aid is awarded on the basis of need.
  • Applicants who do not submit the required forms will not be considered.

Tuition and Fees 2024–2025

*This is mandatory for those students who do not already have health insurance. Those students who have an independent insurance plan may submit a waiver. All international graduate students are automatically enrolled in the Bard plan unless they obtain a waiver by presenting evidence of insurance coverage from one of three specific commercial providers.

** These fees are mandatory for all Bard students.

Please note that Bard Health Services is open to all graduate students that paid the Health Service fee. You do NOT need to have the Bard Health Insurance to be seen at Health Services. This fee is separate from health insurance and only covers visits and most of the services provided at Health Services. It is charged each semester. If you do not have the Bard insurance, please bring a copy of your current valid health insurance to your visit. This information is necessary if any outside labs, including most blood work, is ordered. You are responsible for knowing how your insurance works, especially which laboratory is covered.

Eligibility and Applying

Questions about financial aid and student loans may be directed to [email protected].

  • US Citizens and Permanent Residents
    • US citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply for financial aid by completing the Free Application of Federal Student Aid FAFSA form available online at studentaid.gov. Please indicate Bard College (code 002671).
    • Students who need to borrow more than the maximum unsubsidized loan amounts—in order to meet education expenses not covered by other financial aid—may be eligible to receive a Direct Grad PLUS Loan. Interested students must fill out the Grad PLUS Request Form.
    • Students in default of a federal student loan or owing a refund on a federal grant are not eligible for federal financial aid.
  • International Students

Financial aid is offered to international students applying to either the M.A. or M.S. programs. International students must consider the cost of living in order to assess their funding, i.e., the amount to spend on education and living expenses. Evaluating your finances should be one of the first things to do when considering applying to the programs. EducationUSA is a great source to find information about special financial aid opportunities for international students.
To apply, applicants must submit the following forms:
