On this page you will find information about policies that impact life in the residence halls. For the full policy text, we encourage you to review the Student Handbook below. The policies for life in the residence halls are derived from local, state, and federal law and are enforced to assure safety of the community.
Bard’s Buildings and Grounds Department provides routine maintenance to prevent maintenance and mold concerns, and Bard’s Environmental Services Department cleans residence hall common areas on a daily basis. Buildings and residence hall rooms are inspected multiple times per year. If you believe that you have mildew or mold in your residence hall room, please complete a work order as soon as possible so the issue can be addressed as quickly and effectively as possible.

Dogs on Campus
Dogs are welcome additions to many people’s lives. However, dog owners must be mindful of how bringing their dogs to campus could negatively affect others. Members of our community may have allergies, fear of dogs, or do not welcome barking and other behaviors that can’t always be controlled. Dogs, with the exception of Service Animals (see below) are not allowed in any campus building, including residence halls, without prior permission. Dog owners should exercise good judgment when considering when to bring their dogs to campus and are asked to follow these guidelines:
- Dogs must be leashed while on campus.
- The leash cannot be longer than 8 feet in length.
- Dogs are not allowed on any playing field at any time.
- Dogs are not allowed on Blithewood lawns at any time.
- Owners must pick up after their dogs immediately.
- Exterior waste receptacles may be used to deposit pooper-scooper bags.
A service animal, as defined in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations, is trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability. The work or tasks performed must be directly related to the individual’s disability. In compliance with the ADA, service animals are welcome on campus, and in most buildings on campus including dining halls, classes, meetings, or other events which its handler is permitted to attend. Service animals may be prohibited in certain designated areas when necessary for health or safety (e.g. a controlled laboratory environment, etc.)
