LISBET JACKSON, GILMAN SCHOLAR AND USFQ SPRING ’24“I spent my second-semester junior year studying via tuition exchange at Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) in Ecuador. As a joint major in Written Arts and Spanish Studies, I immersed myself in Spanish language studies and deepened my understanding of local art, history, and contemporary Latin American literature. With the support of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, I could have an experience that made me more adventurous and patient in learning through discovery, without having to think about financial concerns.”

“Additionally, the Gilman program's partnership with Reach the World allowed me to share my journey with two Michigan high school Spanish classes. I documented my experiences in articles and virtual meetings, promoting study abroad and Spanish education. To effectively communicate my experiences, I learned to think more deeply about what I was learning and become more aware of the place I was lucky enough to live in. The program gave me a way to promote study abroad, travel to Ecuador, and Spanish language education.”

The Bard Global BA (GBA) offers students the opportunity to go beyond the traditional study abroad experience and immerse themselves in multiple cultures and environments while pursuing a coherent liberal arts curriculum with expert faculty at multiple institutions and studying with students from all over the world.
