The Significance of Ambivalence
Ambivalence has a bad reputation among philosophers. But certain sorts of ambivalence play an important role in both morality and aesthetics. Unlike irony that serves to diffuse tensions, these sorts of ambivalence help to make tensions more productive. This talk is the inaugural talk in the "Women in Philosophy" Lecture Series, a series that is being organized by the Philosophy Club, currently co-headed by Bard College seniors Sam Smith and Ariella Kust.
