Bard's Arboretum works closely with the following organizations, institutions, and programs that operate at Bard College and within the wider Hudson Valley community.

Bard Center for Environmental Policy

The Bard Center for Environmental Policy's graduate programs combine an intensive course of study with practical training in preparation for environmental careers in nonprofit organizations, government, and the private sector. The programs emphasize methods of critical inquiry and provide the practical knowledge necessary to understand the legal, political, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethical forces that influence the decision-making process.

Environmental Studies, Bard College

At Bard, the Environmental Studies (ES) concentration, working closely with the Center for Environmental Sciences and Humanities, prepares students to address environmental questions in and across a variety of disciplines and scales, local to global, and past/present to future. ES studies equip them with both practical and theoretical tools and ideas that have emerged from the methods and practices of environmental humanities and sciences.

Office of Sustainability, Bard College

Bard engages in sustainability efforts on multiple fronts. The College offers undergraduate, graduate, and dual-degree programs in environmental studies, science and policy. Bard students, faculty, and staff work locally and nationally toward a future where we can thrive. Initiatives coordinated by the Bard Office of Sustainability (BOS) are taking the Annandale campus closer to its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2035.

Other Affiliated Programs and Organizations:

American Chestnut Foundation

The American Chestnut Foundation’s fundamental goal is to develop a blight-resistant American chestnut tree via scientific research and breeding, and to restore the tree to its native forests along the eastern United States.

American Public Garden Association

The American Public Gardens Association champions and advances public gardens as leaders, advocates, and innovators in the conservation and appreciation of plants.

ArbNet Accredited Arboreta

ArbNet created its Arboretum Accreditation Program to establish and share a widely recognized set of industry standards for the purpose of unifying the arboretum community. No other international program of accreditation exists that is specific to arboreta. Any arboretum or public garden with a substantial focus on woody plants may apply.

Arbor Day Foundation

Founded in 1972, the Arbor Day Foundation is the largest nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees. Its vision is to help others understand and use trees as a solution to many of the global issues we face today—including air quality, water quality, a changing climate, deforestation, poverty, and hunger—through conservation and education programs.

Garden Conservancy

The Garden Conservancy’s core mission lies in preserving, sharing, and celebrating America’s gardens and diverse gardening traditions for the education and inspiration of the public.

Hudsonia

Since 1981 Hudsonia has conducted environmental research, education, training, and technical assistance to protect the natural heritage of the Hudson Valley and neighboring regions. A nonadvocacy organization, Hudsonia serves as a neutral voice in the challenging process of land use decision-making.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is a department of the New York State government and the state’s official environmental protection and regulatory agency.

New York State Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation

Winnakee Land Trust

Winnakee Land Trust of Dutchess County conserves the area's natural and agricultural resources, providing a lasting legacy. Through the preservation of land and development of trails, the Winnakee Land Trust promotes more resilient communities while engaging and connecting people to the cultural and scenic resources of the Hudson Valley.
