The Arboretum encompasses the entirety of Bard College's campus, made up of three historic estates and nearly 1,000 acres of fields and forested land bordering the Hudson River. The GPS address is 30 Campus Road, Red Hook, NY 12504. The most frequently visited Arboretum sites are Blithewood Garden and Montgomery Place Garden.

    The Bard Arboretum, including the Blithewood Garden and Montgomery Place grounds, is open to the public from sunrise to sunset every day. The Arboretum office is open Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and is located in the Buildings and Grounds (Physical Plant) building on Campus Road.

    Arboretum self-guided walking tour brochures are available at Bertelsmann Campus Center information desk and Montgomery Place Visitor Center, or you may download a printable version before you visit.

  • Guided Tours
    The Arboretum offers staff-led group tours and welcomes group visits with advance reservations. For more information about group visits, please see the Group Visit Information Sheet.

    All groups must fill out the Group Tour Request Form. Also, groups interested in a guided tour should contact the Arboretum office at 845-752-LEAF (5323) or email [email protected] at least two weeks prior to their visit.

Accessibility on Campus +

Many of the gardens and trails are not fully accessible, however the entire campus is walkable and many sites have car drop-off areas located nearby. Public and wheelchair-accessible restrooms are located in the Bertelsmann Campus Center and the Montgomery Place Visitor Center. For other accessibility requests please call in advance. Dining Options on Bard Campus >

  • Down the Road Café is located in the Bertelsmann Campus Center and features a wide selection of sandwiches, grilled foods, and grab-and-go items. 
  • Manor House Café is a retail dining facility on north campus, near the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, offering a selection of salads, sandwiches, hot entrees, and a la carte offerings from their Fresh Grill. Enjoy dining in Manor's elegant dining room or sit on the terrace overlooking a serene landscape of mountains and meadows.

Our Location

Bard is 90 miles (two hours) north of New York City and approximately 50 miles (one hour) south of Albany, with Amtrak service to Rhinecliff, New York, about nine miles south of Annandale. The airports closest in proximity to our campus are Stewart International Airport in Newburgh (about 45–50 minutes away) and Albany International Airport (about one hour away).

For Your Visit

The Bard Arboretum gardens and grounds are open from
sunrise to sunset daily unless otherwise posted.


For the safety and enjoyment of all visitors, please:

• Carry out everything that you carry in
• Be aware: ticks found in this area may carry
Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases
• Drone operators must have prior approval from Bard Security
• All professional photographers must obtain
a signed release from Bard College

The following are prohibited:

• Pets
• Glass containers
• Picking flowers
• Climbing trees, walls, or garden structures
• Swimming or bathing
• Alcohol and illegal drugs
• Vandalism (violators will be fined)
• Firearms or other weapons, including projectile-firing devices
