What We Do

Bard College’s Web Services Office builds websites for Bard programs. Many programs have access to Bard tools to maintain their own websites, keeping content current and engaging. If you have questions about your website or wish to start a new website, contact [email protected].

Using Copyright-Free Images
All persons who upload content to Bard’s websites, social media platforms, and other web-based platforms are expected to use imagery that the College has the rights to use or reproduce. At any time, you may contact [email protected] to request a Bard-approved image for use on Bard’s websites or social media. If you or someone at Bard has created a graphic for the express purpose of advertising a College event or program, you may freely use such graphics online. If, however, you are using an image not provided by the Office of Communications, then you must ensure that the image is permitted for the College’s uses.

In general, it is best to use images produced or commissioned by the College, or to ensure that the images you are using have an appropriate Creative Commons license. However, if obtaining an image from an outside source, you must contact the photographer, videographer, artist, or creator to obtain written permission for the College to use and/or reproduce the work on our websites and social media platforms. For any questions regarding these standards, please email [email protected].

Using AI-Generated Images
The use of AI-generated images is highly discouraged when producing content for Bard’s websites, social media, and other online platforms. The Office of Communications maintains that it is best to utilize actual photography produced or obtained by the College. AI imagery is generated by combining other materials, often without permission from the original creators, and thus opens up questions of copyright infringement. There is no replacement for quality imagery that is actually inherent to Bard, its programs, and its partners, and whatever speed or ease AI image generators provide is outweighed by the loss of institutional identity when relying on such tools.

To request Bard-approved imagery for your uses, please email [email protected].
