Bard High School Early College Manhattan
Full-time faculty - Visual ArtBard High School Early College-Manhattan, a partnership of Bard College and the New York City Department of Education, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Visual Art starting in the fall of the 2020-2021 year. BHSEC, a national model in the field of public-school reform, enables talented and highly motivated students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College as well as a New York State Regents diploma. The academic program emphasizes small class size and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts environment. Faculty are encouraged to remain professionally active in their discipline.
Classes are in session from September through June, following the NYC DOE school calendar. Teacher class load is about 18 sessions per week, forty-five minutes per session.
The successful candidate should be capable of teaching college-level Foundation, Drawing, and Painting courses, and maintaining the art studio, including ordering supplies. A student art exhibit is mounted twice yearly. Experience in working with teenage and college-level students and an ongoing commitment to the artistic community are desirable. An MFA or equivalent degree is preferred.
