Manager of Public Humanities
Bard Graduate Center (BGC) invites applications for the Manager of Public Humanities. This is a full-time, on-site position at our campus on West 86th Street in New York City.The Bard Graduate Center is a graduate research institute in New York City dedicated to the study of the cultural history of the material world and committed to the encyclopedic study of things, drawing on methodologies and approaches from art and design history, history of technology, philosophy, anthropology, and archaeology and cultural history. Our students gravitate to careers in museums, academia, the art world, and publishing. Our MA and PhD degree programs, gallery exhibitions, research initiatives, and public programs explore new ways of thinking about decorative arts, design history, and material culture.
Reporting to the Director of Public Humanities + Research, this Manager oversees the execution of all internal and public-facing research events, including public lectures, conversations, performances, lunchtime talks, symposia, in-gallery events, and research convenings. This role is responsible for both advanced planning and day-of events management, working with a team of student workers and independent contractors.
This position is expected to work some evenings and weekends.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Event Production
- stage management, logistics, and event staff management
- event scheduling
- record and archive event videos using house system
- lead student workers in hospitality and space setup
- marketing materials prep
- arrange food for lunchtime talks and receptions
- Administration
- contracts (drafting of unique agreements for each guest, under the supervision of the Director)
- invoice processing and credit card reconciliation
- booking travel for outside guests
Desired Qualifications
- Event production experience
- Experience in project management, including expense tracking and contracting
- Experience working in an academic and/or museum environment
- Able to use consumer-grade media hardware and editing software
- Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse faculty, students, and gallery staff.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $60,00- 67,000 + a generous benefits package.
