Bard High School Early College Manhattan

Full Time Faculty - Mathematics

Bard High School Early College - Manhattan, a partnership of Bard College and the New York City Department of Education, invites applications for a full time teaching position in the Department of Mathematics beginning Fall 2025. BHSEC, a national model in the field of public school reform, enables talented and highly motivated students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College as well as a high school diploma.  The academic program emphasizes small class size and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts environment.

The Mathematics faculty position includes the responsibility to teach across the curriculum (9th, 10th and the college program) as well as contributing to the overall Mathematics program.  Experience in computer science and its teaching is a plus.
 
This position provides the opportunity to work with a dedicated faculty of scholars, scientists and artists, most of whom hold terminal degrees in their fields.  In their four years here, BHSEC students earn an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College in addition to a New York State high school diploma.  The academic program emphasizes small class size, seminar-style discussion and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts environment. 

Location: Bard High School Early College at 525 E Houston Street in New York City, NY

Start Date: Late August 2025

Salary Range: $65-$100K based on experience

Qualifications
  • The successful candidate will hold an advanced degree in Mathematics or a related field and have significant teaching experience, preferably at the college level.
  • Experience in computer science and its teaching is a plus. 
  • Responsibilities include teaching across the curriculum (9th, 10th and the college program) as well as contributing to the overall mathematics program:
  • The successful candidate will be a full member of the faculty community and will participate in faculty meetings and committee work, conduct academic advising, conduct regular office hours and pursue research.
  • We seek teachers and scholars deeply committed to their field and creative in engaging students at both the college and high school levels.
  • New York State teaching certification is a plus
  • Interest in working with high school age students who are completing a college-level course of study
  • The ideal candidate will exhibit an inclusive philosophy that supports all students and their capability to succeed regardless of differences and challenges
  • We are seeking candidates with a strong commitment to equity and social justice and desire to open up opportunities for underrepresented students
  • Candidates must understand cultural difference and purposefully help to uplift ideas from underrepresented groups to improve the equity balance in education
  • A commitment to reducing and an openness to learning about potential barriers to inclusion are needed
