Adjunct Faculty in Global Languages

Bard Early College New Orleans (BECNO), a partnership between Bard College and the Louisiana Department of Education (LDE) invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in Global Languages for a 4-credit course taught year round. Our fall semester starts in August 2023 and the spring semester will continue with the second level of the Global language. Candidates must be available for Faculty and Staff Orientation in July.

Bard Early College in New Orleans engages bright, intellectually curious students through a tuition-free, immersive liberal arts curriculum offered to students in the last two years of high school. By promoting authentic and supportive undergraduate opportunities, Bard Early College faculty and staff prepare students of all academic backgrounds for further college success. Across our network, the Bard Early Colleges enable talented and highly motivated students to complete a high school diploma in addition to an Associate of Arts degree from Bard College. Our academic program emphasizes student-led learning in small seminar-style classes. We offer team-based intentional support for our non-traditional students, and a culture of collaborative pedagogical development for our teachers.

We are looking for candidates familiar with using participatory pedagogy, demonstrating commitment to diverse working and learning environments, and focusing on interdisciplinary connections in curricular design. We are seeking educators with a commitment to social justice, who are passionate about their fields of study, and interested in working to advance equity through rigorous curricula made accessible to students with varied academic preparation.

The Global Languages class will meet three times a week, including a lab, and we have some flexibility on the class days/times. We also ask our adjunct faculty to allot one office hour per course.  The Fall semester tentatively begins August 14th.

Compensation: 
$6,000 per language course, $4,500 per Seminar course; adjuncts are limited to a total of 2 courses per semester

Qualifications:
  • Candidates with expertise in one or multiple Global Languages will be considered.
  • We are seeking educators with a commitment to social justice, who are passionate about their fields of study, and interested in working to advance equity through rigorous curricula made accessible to students with varied academic preparation.
  •  Candidates must show a demonstrated proficiency and interest in teaching high school.
  • Candidates who will have a Ph.D. at the time of employment, or who are ABD, with high school and/or college teaching experience are preferred.
