BHSEC, a national model in the field of public school reform, enables talented and highly motivated students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College as well as a high school diploma. The academic program emphasizes small class size and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts environment.
The successful candidate will hold an advanced degree in mathematics or a related field and have significant teaching experience, preferably at the college level. Responsibilities include teaching a total of four sections across the curriculum (9th, 10th and the college program), usually two preparations, as well as contributing to the overall mathematics program. Therein, contributions include participating in faculty meetings and committee work, serving as an academic advisor, holding regular office hours and staying involved in professional communities, including through research. Successful applicants will be innovative teachers, skilled in encouraging collaborative learning and group work, and able to provide students with meaningful and challenging tasks that promote problem-solving and inquiry-based learning. Successful candidates will also understand how to foster a love of mathematics or computer science in students, emphasizing the real-world applications and relevance of mathematical concepts
Location: Bard High School Early College at 525 E Houston Street, New York, NY 10002
Compensation: $65-$100K based on relevant teaching experience and highest degree earned
Start Date: August 2026 for the Fall 2026 semester, contingent on final budget approval and renewable annually.
Qualifications
- This position is open to experienced teacher-scholars who hold a Master's or PhD in a relevant subject area.
- Experience teaching at both high school and college levels (desired)
- Interest in working with high school age students who are completing a college-level course of study
- We are seeking candidates with a strong commitment to equity and social justice and desire to open up opportunities for underrepresented students
- Candidates must understand cultural difference and purposefully help to uplift ideas from underrepresented groups to improve the equity balance in education
