Recruitment and Communications Manager

The Bard Experiential Learning Lab (BELL) seeks a Recruitment and Communications Manager for its program in New York City. BELL is a new Bard College program which will welcome its first cohort of study away students for the spring 2023 semester. Located in a brand new 200-bed co-living and learning space in the vibrant community of Williamsburg Brooklyn, BELL combines academic study with professional internships and career development for advanced undergraduates from Bard College and colleges across the globe. Under the supervision of the BELL Director, the Recruitment and Communications Manager is responsible for student recruitment as well as marketing and communications, which includes managing BELL's social media as well as print and online marketing materials. The Manager of Recruitment and Communications will be closely involved in off-campus recruitment and will travel domestically approximately 50% of each semester (fall and spring). 

Essential Duties

Recruitment
  • Regularly promotes the BELL program on our main campus in Annandale-on-Hudson by visiting classes, tabling, participating in events and liaising with Residence Life, Student Activities, Career Development, and Study Abroad programs as well as the Dean of Student Affairs Office and the Center for Civic Engagement
  • Recruitment of students from international and domestic colleges/universities and across the Open Society University Network, which includes outreach, travel, and engaging with leadership programs, academic departments, career development offices, and centers for public service and civil engagement at colleges and universities across the United States
  • Represents the program at conferences such as AACU, Ashoka, Bonner and Impact
  • Tracks student interest and regularly follows up with potential applicants
  • Develops, maintains and grows relationships with sending institutions
Communications
  • Works closely with the Director to develop communications strategy 
  • Manages content for website and for social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter, etc.)
  • Shapes marketing and branding materials
  • Works on video production (including editing) for events and presentations
  • Creates program brochure, flyers, etc. 
  • Writes features, student profiles, etc. 
  • Assists with drafting of organizational annual report
Fundraising and Development
  • Works closely with Director to draft fundraising documents for individual donors, grant applications, corporate and foundation relations
  • Coordinates annual fund mailing
  • Creates materials for cultivation events (alumni gatherings and reunions)
  • Writes monthly e-newsletter
  • Writes articles for Bard's alumni magazine and prepares press releases for local media (print, radio and TV)
  • Participates in grant reporting (annual/semi-annual)
  • Writes press releases related to development gifts
Other
  • Leads capacity building workshops for students on marketing, advertising, print and digital media
  • Mentors and advises students
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity and equity in all forms of communication
  • Coordinates recruitment and marketing efforts with Bard's Career Development Office, Center for Civic Engagement, Office of the CFO and Dean of the College
  • Administrative tasks and office support
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Excellent communication skills (including writing and editing)
  • Travels often (50% of the fall and spring semesters)
  • Ability to provide advising to students
  • Ability to understand client programs, organization and culture
  • Project management skills
  • Understanding of the organization's mission
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing or related field is preferred, equivalent combination of training and experience required
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
  • A valid driver's license
  • Expertise in using Facebook, Twiter, LinkedIn, Instagram and other related digital tools
  • Preferred candidate should have demonstrated Web writing experience for an educational institution, corporation or comparable organization
  • Knowledge of design, production and marketing across multiple channels
Salary: This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position. The annual salary range is $62,000-$67,000.
