The Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College seeks an experienced development professional to grow CCS Bard’s community of individual supporters in New York City and the Hudson Valley with a focus on cultivating support across several mission-driven, strategic projects. This is a part-time position and will take place mainly within New York City. 

Established in 1990, the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College is an incubator for experimentation in exhibition-making and a leading institution dedicated exclusively to curatorial studies, a discipline exploring the historical, intellectual, and social conditions that inform curatorial practice. CCS Bard’s mission is to encourage and explore new approaches to the presentation of contemporary art and culture. It does this through three main avenues: a dynamic exhibition program at the Hessel Museum of Art, a graduate program in curatorial studies, and the CCS Bard library and archives. Together, these resources amount to one of the world’s most forward-thinking teaching and learning environments for contemporary curatorial practice and scholarship.

The Manager of Individual Giving and Cultivation will report to the Executive Director on high-level strategy, goals, and revenue targets, and to the Director of Administration on day-to-day operations and logistics. They will also work closely with the Director of External Affairs on the annual gala, held in New York City, and collaborate with other key staff involved in donor cultivation and stewardship including the Director of the Graduate Program & Chief Curator.

This is a part-time (20 hours per week), remote position, with the ideal candidate residing in the New York City area. Occasional travel to CCS Bard in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY will be required for key events, such as exhibition openings, dinners, or VIP programs. Candidates located in the Hudson Valley and able to make frequent visits to NYC will also be considered. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about the NYC art and donor ecosystem. They will be able to both develop and execute fundraising strategies, with a demonstrated track record of growing support among individual donors in particular for a museum or arts institution.

Priorities and Projects

• Develop and implement an individual giving strategy to help fund the expansion of CCS Bard’s research center (library, archive, and special collections), as well as generate new support for CCS Bard’s graduate program and exhibitions
• Increase participation in CCS Bard’s already established annual gala with a focus on new donor cultivation in coordination with the Director of External Affairs
• Identify and engage art collectors around the sale of artworks and editions
• Expand CCS Bard’s membership program and patron group
• Manage and help grow CCS Bard’s annual year-end giving campaign, bringing fresh ideas to reach new audiences

Skills and Experience

• 5+ years of experience in development and fundraising in an arts context
• Demonstrated track record of building significant support among individual donors
• Extensive familiarity with the landscape of arts funders in New York City, and the art world more broadly
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and a strong attention to detail
• Collaborative work ethic
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in a professional setting
• NYC-based and able to work remotely with the ability to travel to Bard on an occasional basis

Salary Range: $30,000–50,000 (approximately 20 hours per week)
