Assistant Cataloging Librarian

The Center for Curatorial Studies Library seeks a part-time Assistant Cataloging Librarian to work with the CCS Bard Librarian in improving intellectual and physical access to our research collections by assisting with the cataloging of library material from acquisitions to end-processing. The Assistant Cataloging Librarian will work closely with the CCS Bard Librarian to identify cataloging priorities, implement equitable descriptive practices, streamline workflows, reduce the backlog and help to maintain cataloging-related systems. This position provides an opportunity to gain experience in art librarianship, bibliographic description, and collection management. The position may include metadata analysis and clean-up projects, as well as collection management and maintenance projects, as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and the ability to work independently as well as part of a departmental team to identify problems, and communicate questions effectively. Late afternoon, evening and weekend availability a plus.

We are seeking or an early-career librarian or a library sciences student with cataloging experience to assist with the copy cataloging of library material from acquisitions to end-processing for a specialized contemporary art library based within a liberal arts college.

Qualifications
  • Candidates must have 1-2 years of cataloging experience along with knowledge of library and archival standards including RDA, DCRM(B), AACR2, LCSH, and MARC.
  • Experience with library services platforms is necessary with OCLC WorldShare
  • Management Services experience preferred.
  • Ability to identify and transcribe languages other than English is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to teamwork are essential.
  • Candidates must have either an ALA-accredited degree in library/ information science, or an equivalent combination of relevant coursework or experience in cataloging, resource description, databases, and/ or collection management.
  • The ability to use computing tools and to lift, carry and position books and other materials weighing up to 20 lbs. is also necessary as library materials may be stored on shelves up to 12 feet high.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
