Bard College at Simon's Rock

Director of Admissions

Employer Website: http://apply.interfolio.com/104651
Our Institution: Founded in 1860, Bard College is an international network of highly innovative and admired educational institutions grounded in the liberal arts and sciences. A division of Bard located in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, Bard College at Simon’s Rock is the only four-year college in the U.S. specifically designed for motivated adolescents to fully realize their academic potential by beginning college immediately after the 10th or 11th grade. BA and AA degrees are granted in over 35 areas of study. Simon’s Rock attracts a diverse student population of approximately 400 students, drawn nationally and internationally, with a significant population of students identifying as LGBTQIA2S+.

For over 50 years, Simon’s Rock has practiced the simple yet radical idea that many students are ready for college before the age of 18, an idea that launched the Early College movement in the United States and beyond. In 2015, Simon’s Rock launched Bard Academy, a two-year high school program for boarding and day students, with courses designed and taught by college professors and leading to entry into college after the tenth grade. In doing so, Simon’s Rock has connected high school and college in one cohesive, coherent six-year arc. In 2019, Simon’s Rock established the Early College Research Institute (ECRI), a locus for research into “what’s next” in Early College.

The Role:
Bard Academy and Bard College at Simon’s Rock seek an experienced, data-driven, innovative, and compassionate leader to serve as its Director of Admission. Reporting to the Vice Provost, the Director is responsible for the overall leadership, strategy, and tactical implementation for student recruitment and admission for both the Academy and the College.
The Director is a key member of the leadership team which works collaboratively to serve and strengthen all aspects of the Simon’s Rock community, and will contribute to strategic decision-making across the institution. The Director will provide creative and enthusiastic leadership in the design, development and execution of student recruitment while also enhancing admissions processes consistent with the values and goals of Simon’s Rock. The Director will create and implement strategies for successful intentional student recruitment, working closely with the Dean of Students and the International Student Support Team to coordinate specialized support services that integrate international students within the campus community.

The Director, in collaboration with the Communications and Marketing team, ensures that the institution’s recruitment strategies are mission and vision focused and are creatively represented utilizing existing and emerging technologies. The Director will establish relationships with, and manage services provided by a variety of third party recruitment and enrollment vendors; re-evaluate, on a regular basis, the effectiveness of Simon’s Rock’s recruitment, admission, and financial aid programs to ensure alignment with the strategic goals and direction of the institution; and develop and manage the budget for recruitment and admissions ensuring that resources are allocated through evidence-based design, best practices and a transparent focus to achieve goals.

The Director will provide oversight and direction to a talented team of admission counselors; develop a strong sense of teamwork, equity, and investment in the Simon’s Rock mission; and establish an environment of mentoring and support. The Director will establish close working relationships with the Provost, staff, faculty, trustees, alumni, and others to engage and solicit feedback concerning enrollment priorities, shifting demographics, recruitment, financial aid leveraging, retention, and the priorities that inform and shape admission and financial aid policies and programs. The Director works closely with the Enrollment Committee to review and analyze data on student enrollment and success to support strategic direction for retention efforts.
