Full-time Faculty - Mathematics

Position Description

Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Newark, a partnership between Bard College and the Newark Public Schools (NPS) in Newark, NJ, invites applications for two full-time faculty positions in Mathematics, which both begin in the Fall.

Through a tuition-free, credit-bearing college program in the liberal arts and sciences with robust supports, BHSEC schools help high school age students, particularly those at risk of not completing postsecondary education, access, afford, and complete college prepared to contribute to the workforce and civic life. At BHSEC Newark, students have the opportunity to earn up to 60 college credits and an associate in arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College, concurrently with a high school diploma from the Newark Board of Education (NBOE).

We are seeking educators passionate about their fields of study and committed to advancing equity through rigorous curricula made accessible to students with varied academic preparation. The successful applicant for this position must be committed to teaching classes at both the high school and college levels. In addition, you will be expected to participate fully in the life of the school, including student advising, club advising, and committee service.

Mathematics Position 1: The successful candidate will teach Geometry, a 9th-grade course, as well as 100 and 200 college-level courses in Mathematics, including College Algebra and other courses to be detailed.

Mathematics Position 2: The successful candidate will teach Algebra I, a 9th-grade course, as well as 100 and 200 college-level courses in Mathematics, including College Algebra, College Statistics, College PreCalculus

Number of Expected Hires: 2

Compensation:  This is a NBOE position.  The salary range is $67,000 to $111,625 (Salary updated for SY 25-26)

Union Affiliation: Newark Teacher’s Union (NTU)

Start Date: Late August 2025

Employment Period: Ten (10) Months, ongoing

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. Preferred
  • Master's Degree Required
  • College teaching experience required
  • High school teaching experience and/or experience working with youth desirable. 
  • Work authorization in the United States required for all BHSEC Newark faculty positions. We cannot sponsor visas for this position.

  • Candidates must understand cultural difference and purposefully help to uplift ideas from underrepresented groups to improve the equity balance in education
  • A commitment to reducing and an openness to learning about potential barriers to inclusion are needed
