Shaping Objects, Shaping Cities
Architecture permeates our everyday lives, from the table we sit at to the house we call home. But what happens when you experience these familiar structures in a different way? When you take an object and turn it inside out? Angela Co has set out to explore these questions in her own work—from furniture to landscape to the animals hanging around our backyards—with a goal of creating new spatial narratives. It’s that process of discovery she plans to share and which she sees as being the foundation of a new architecture program at Bard.
Angela Co is an architect, designer, and teacher. Her research into inhabitable things and their effects on space, bodies, and perception has been supported by the Arnold W. Brunner Rome Prize in Architecture, the MacDowell Colony, the Institute for Public Architecture, and the Eyebeam Institute of Art + Technology. Co teaches at Syracuse University, where she is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Architecture and the Director of the New York City Architecture Program. She holds a Master of Architecture Degree from Columbia University and dual Bachelor Degrees in Architecture and Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a registered architect in the State of New York, a Certified Passive House Consultant, and a LEED-accredited professional.
